A song Phil co-wrote with Scott Gorham. This
song is Scott Gorham's first writing credit along with 'Night Life being his
first appearance on a major label recoring..
2. Night Life
(3:57)
I have heard that this song is actually a
cover of a Willie Nelson song. I went on Napster to look for the song. I got it
and it's a duet with Willie Nelson and B.B. King. I saw in an interview with
Phil in which he cites B.B. King along with Aretha Franklin and Tina Turner as
artists who have inspired him because they have been in the music indusdry for a
long time and are still making great music. When I find the article I'll put the
quote in.
3. It's Only
Money (2:47)
4. Still In
Love With You (5:38)
(Submitted by Phil
Osborne)
"On early versions of "Still In Love With You" Phil used to try out new lines
for songs during the 'fade out' ; lines from Old Flame, With Love and Black Rose
crop up (1973 - 1975 ).
5. Frankie
Carrol (2:02)
I heard that the song title is two names put
together, Frankie Miller who sang backup vocals on 'Still in Love With You' and
Ted Carrol who was their road manager.
6. Showdown
(4:31)
(Submitted by Phil
Osborne)
"On Ludwigshaven 6-9-75 Phil introduces
"Showdown" as a song about an English football team, Manchester United - who
were not nearly as successful then as they are now !"
7. Banshee (1:26)
An instrumental and probably the only one ever recorded by Thin Lizzy.
Here is a poem by Philip Lynott from one of his poetry books called 'Banshee'
I was your lover
You were my
queen
You broke my heart
I gave up everything
I was your
friend
But you were my foe
I told you that
I could not let you
go
At night I hear the wind calling
"Oh come back my darling"
Oh
banshee! Oh banshee!
It keeps on calling me, keeps on calling me
We
dance the night away
Oh we dance the night away
I won your
heart
You took my soul
I loved you then
But you left me cold
I
was your lover
You were my queen
You broke my heart
I gave up
everything
At night I can hear you calling
"Oh come back my
darling"
Oh banshee! Oh banshee!
I hear you calling me, I hear you calling
me
8. Philomena
(3:42)
A song that Philip named after and wrote for his Mother, Philomena.
(The following submitted by Alan
Helfner, who went through a bunch of traditional Irish music records and found
it pretty amazing how many pieces of these songs he pored over landed up in some
way, shape or form in Thin Lizzy songs)
"Philomena" lifts some of the chorus from
"The Old Country", a.k.a. "Home Boys Home" (the rest being "Home I'd like to
be/home for a while in the old country/Where the oak and the ash and the old
rowan tree/are all a-growing green in the old country").
9. Sha-La-La
(3:25)
10. Dear
Heart (4:31)
S
(L to R) Scott Gorham and Philip Lynott.
