1. Thunder and Lightning (UK # 39, May 7, 1983) (This excerpt appeared in an article from a Dutch magazine called 'Aardschok Metal Hammer' in June 1988, in this article Scott Gorham is given the opportunity to give his opinion on some Thin Lizzy songs) "This we recorded with John
Sykes, it's on our last studio-album. At that time we knew we would split
up. I already told Phil four or five months before that I would leave the
band. He talked me into recording another album and touring for a last
time. After the tour we would split up and after six months re-unite (he
laughed). Actually it was the fourth or fifth time Phil had to persuade me
to stay, so I was getting used to give in. The album was very hard to
make, since we knew we were going to split up. I felt sorry for John Sykes
who just joined the band after leaving Tygers of Pan Tang. He boarded a
sinking ship and I think the quality of the album suffered because of that
." The demo title for this song was
titled 'Chosen One' which most likely was the original title Phil had in
mind for the song. If you hear the song 'Waiting For
An Alibi' (on 'Black Rose - A Rock Legend') you'll hear the lyric, "Valentino's
in a cold sweat, placed all his money on his last bet".Maybe
there might be a connection between both of the songs. The line in Cold
Sweat says, "I might spend it in stages, or move out to Las
Vegas" , so both songs mentioning gambling. Also, on the demo version of this
song was titled 'Mama Don't Like It' which
could have been the original title Phil had in mind for the song. The demo
track had no vocals, but the song on the Thunder and Lightning does. 8. Bad Habits
