Thin Lizzy

Marquee Club, London – Tuesday 13th November 1973 (?)

FOR a three-man band, Thin Lizzy produce a sound that a lot of bigger bands would envy.

Their performance at the London Marquee last week turned out to be quite a showcase for lead guitarist Eric Bell. As the hall was packed to sweaty capacity, it wasn’t always possible to see what was going on, but the sounds coming out were fine.

They tried out a lot of material from the new album “Vagabonds Of The Western World”, on the audience. It’s difficult to gauge reaction because crowds in London are quite different from crowds elsewhere and the Marquee tends to cater musically for an elitist bunch. However the band did play well and proved that they are better than their last single.

From the album, they included Gonna Creep Up On You, Slow Blues and Little Girl In Bloom.

They played the single Whiskey In The Jar and an old Yardbirds number called The Nazz Are Blue.

Although the club atmosphere is nice for them, I think it would be more profitable to see them properly in a concert hall.
